By: Bapak John van der Jagt

The Cimande style Leader (Pendekar) for the basic system of our school was Bapak Nunu.

Bapak Johan has learned this 1st Cimande Pencak Silat style here in Holland and became Teacher.

Pencak Silat Mande Muda is a system which combines techniques from 25 traditional Silat systems from West Java and other areas of Indonesia. It was developed in Bandung, West Java by Uyuh Suwanda in 1951 and brought to “the west” by his son Pendekar Herman Suwanda, who became the head of the family system in 1987. Pak Herman taught seminars throughout the USA, Canada and Europe. He continued to spread the knowledge of Pencak Silat until his unfortunate death in March 2000.

Bapak Johan trained with Pendekar Herman Suwanda and after his lethal accident, Bapak Johan has trained with his sister, the present Pendekar Guru Besar Ibu Rita Suwanda of Mande Muda International. Mande means Cimande and Muda means young, so Mande Muda means a young/new style of Cimande. Bapak Johan has received his Teacher (Jagabaya) certificat in this school.
